EUFAR2 brings together 24 leading European institutions and companies involved in airborne research in the field of environmental research in the atmospheric, marine, terrestrial and Earth sciences, operating more than 30 instrumented research aircraft. EUFAR2 aims at: i) Coordinating the network for exchanging knowledge, sharing developments, and building the unified structure that is required for improving access to the airborne infrastructures; ii) Providing users with transnational access to the airborne infrastructures; iii) Extending transnational access to national funding sources; iv) Promoting airborne research in the academic community; v) Developing research activities in airborne instrumentation. More information is available on the EUFAR website, at www.eufar.net TASKS TO BE PERFORMED Under the supervision of the N7-SP (Standards and Protocols Networking Activity) activity leader: 1. Development of common protocols- To develop, expand and implement common protocols for airborne surveys and airborne data handling in consensus with international initiatives towards standardisation and harmonisation. 2. Support to users and operators- To support users and operators with recommendations on best practice and state-of-the-art software for airborne data pre-processing and further analysis. 3. Development of toolboxes- To develop, maintain and publish open source software toolboxes for higher level data products and data analysis. 4. Definition of standards- To define and help implement standards for data transfer in real time. 5. Reporting- To produce written deliverables in English to the European Commission. SKILLS REQUIRED / PROFILE Studies level: Engineering diploma; Excellent programming skills for scientific software (C language, mathematics and algorithms); Fluent English appreciated, especially written skills (communication of the project is exclusively in English); Knowledge in aeronautics would be appreciated; Knowledge on airborne research would be appreciated; Qualities expected: rigorous, autonomous and responsive. IMPORTANT REMARKS A 2-year relevant experience would be appreciated; Position available from 1st September 2014 and based in Toulouse (France); Contract: a 1-year contract (CDD), renewable thrice; Salary: to be defined according to profile, between 2000 € and 2600 € net; Curriculum Vitae and motivation letter, both in English, and letter of recommendation before 5th May 2014; Interviews in English planned in Toulouse, France, between 19th and 23th May 2014.
